Daniel Dubois has accepted Dave Allen’s challenge to fight for his British heavyweight title later this year.

Allen has taken some time away from boxing since being comprehensively beaten by David Price in July. The popular heavyweight travelled to Leeds on Saturday however to attend Josh Warrington’s IBF featherweight title defence against Sofiane Takoucht with the intention of speaking to Frank Warren, Dubois’ promoter.

“All the naysayers... watch. I will win that press conference, I will talk that man’s ears off, and I’ll win the weigh-in too. Come the fight, I’ll be a 20-1 shot, but we’ll see. I’m excited.”

Dubois responded to Allen’s comments on Sunday, writing on Twitter: “No problem. December in London, if this is serious.”

Dubois destroyed Ebenezer Tetteh inside the first round to extend his professional record to 13-0 in September.

That win saw the 22-year-old Londoner add the Commonwealth championship to his collection with his focus on winning every belt in his path as he inches closer to world title level.

“I don’t think I’m very far [from fighting at world level],” Dubois said last month. “I’m getting these belts and it is adding more value to my name. So when I step up, there are going to be bigger and more lucrative shows and people are going to want to see this British champion in action."
