Tributes have been paid to two young men who died when a car crashed into a tree near West Bretton.

Daniel Grace and Shay Doyle, both 19, who have been named locally and by the coroner's court, were passengers in a black Seat Ibiza car driven by Koby Jones, 18, from Flockton, near Huddersfield, who was a former Shelley College pupil.

The Ibiza car left the road and hit a tree in Bramley Lane, near West Bretton, Wakefield, on the evening of Friday, January 24. Tragically all three boys died at the scene. Tributes have been paid to Daniel, who was known as Dan, on social media.

Tributes have also been paid to much-loved Shay Doyle, 19, who was described as having a 'contagious smile' and someone who would not be forgotten. One post said: "He had his whole life ahead of him - this world is so cruel."

Inquests into the deaths of Koby, Shay and Dan are expected to be opened and adjourned at Wakefield Coroners' Court on Wednesday next week.

Earlier this week, Koby's mum Rebecca issued a statement in tribute to her son, saying: "Koby was genuinely one of the most kind, thoughtful, hardworking young men I have ever known and we are so proud to call him our son! This family is broken and the world is going to be such a lonely place without him.

“Whoever had the pleasure of meeting him would say the same. Love you son. Loved by ALL!"

Koby's old school also paid tribute to him, saying he was a young man who 'put others first'. A fourth man in the car suffered life threatening injuries and he remains in hospital.

The Major Collision and Inquiry Team of West Yorkshire Police is investigating the circumstances of the collision. Police believe the car left the Horbury Bridge area at around 8.20pm. The crash happened around 10 minutes later on Bramley Lane, near the village of West Bretton.
