Danny Dyer: If Donald Trump can be president, why can’t I be king?

Danny Dyer has said the royal family does not recognise his regal heritage, adding that he is “110,000th in line to the throne”.

The EastEnders star discovered in 2016 that he is related to Thomas Cromwell, Edward III, William the Conqueror and Henry III, when he filmed Who Do You Think You Are?

He is set to explore his royal roots in a two-part BBC history series called Danny Dyer’s Right Royal Family, due to air next year.

Appearing alongside Dame Joan Collins as a guest on The Jonathan Ross Show, he told her of his royal roots, saying: “I’ve got all the paperwork, Joan, I’ll show you. I brought it with me. He is (King Edward III) my 26 times great-grandfather. I am royal, basically.”

Asked if he had been invited to the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Dyer replied: “They won’t acknowledge me. Nothing, nothing at all.

“But I’m 110,000th in line to the throne. So in about 800 years, they’ll dig me up and I’ll be king of England. It is fascinating all that. It’s mental, it’s insane.

“If Donald Trump can be president, why can’t I be king?”

The soap star, 41, also rubbished reports that his reality TV star daughter Dani had split from her Love Island beau Jack Fincham.

Following a post on Dani’s Instagram story saying the pair had parted, dad Danny said it was all “bollocks”.

He described Fincham as “a good kid” and added: “You’ve got to respect the fact they were on a TV show, they met on a TV show and the public voted for them.

“But actually they are real human beings now and they’ve had to parade themselves in front of cameras but now they need to start sitting back a little bit and concentrate on what is important, which is their relationship.

“It’s hard enough as it is in a relationship, let alone with cameras (around you).”

Asked by Dame Joan if having a daughter with a similar name in the house got confusing, he explained: “We thought we were having a son, and I was going to call my son Danny. Then it turned out she was a daughter, so we thought, ‘We’ll stay with Danny and just put an ‘i’ on the end’. My wife calls me Big Dan.”

His soap character, Mick Carter, will soon be released from jail and Dyer said: “He’s got the right hump, Jon.”

He also teased drama for the soap’s seasonal storylines, saying: “It’s Christmas in Walford, someone is going over, mate. It is a great gig, I do love it there. It’s great running The Vic, I love the people there. I am very grateful for it.”

In June Dyer launched a diatribe against David Cameron while appearing as a guest on ITV’s one-off show, Good Evening Britain.

He called the former prime minister a “twat” as he laid into him over the EU referendum and Brexit.

The resulting clip of him airing his views became a viral moment.

He told Ross: “I just had the hump that day and it’s true though, I thought it was common knowledge that a man who used to be leader of the country just f***** off. Don’t even get me started on (Nigel) Farage.

“I just had the hump. I couldn’t sit on Question Time. I don’t even know that much about politics, I just don’t like Cameron.

“I think someone needed to say something. And sitting next to Piers (Morgan), that wound me up.”
