Danny John-Jules has been forced to call a halt to his rehearsals days before the first competition dance of Strictly Come Dancing, following an injury.

The 58-year-old Red Dwarf star is said to have swollen feet following relentless nine-hour practice sessions with his dance partner Amy Dowden.

“Mother Nature’s having a bit of a dig at me,” he told The Sun. “I had to bandage my toes.

“You have to be very conscious about not getting injuries as my knees are a bit creaky.”

Dowden added: “I was telling him he needed to put his feet up.”

John-Jules, also known for his role in detective series Death In Paradise, will perform a foxtrot to the theme from Top Cat on Saturday’s show.

He’s not the only contestant suffering.

What Not To Wear star Susannah Constantine has had to strap her ribs while rehearsing with Anton Du Beke, while Steps singer Faye Tozer is said to be suffering severe blisters.
