Danny Murphy explains ‘real factor’ in Aston Villa comeback as Alan Shearer hails Jhon Duran
Danny Murphy hailed Aston Villa’s ‘bravery and quality’ after they came from behind to defeat Everton 3-2 on Saturday evening.
The Villans appeared to be heading for defeat when Dominic Calvert-Lewin put Everton 2-0 up in the 27th minute, but a double from Ollie Watkins and a Jhon Duran stunner turned the game around.
“I thought Villa’s bravery and quality was a real factor,” said Murphy. “Everton of course made mistakes but it wasn’t so much a capitulation, it was just Villa’s relentlessness. In the Bournemouth game Everton were exhausted for that last five or 10 minutes, that wasn’t the case here.”
The win was sealed by another goal from Colombian striker Duran. Duran, 20, has stepped off the bench to score the decisive goal in all three of Villa’s Premier League wins this season.

His left-footed thunderbolt from 30 yards against Everton left the Premier League’s greatest ever goalscorer Alan Shearer waxing lyrical in the Match of the Day studio. Shearer commented: “The way he cuts it, you can see the bend on the strike from that angle from behind, what a strike.”
Aftrer a strong start to the Premier League season, with three wins from four matches, Villa will begin their Champions League campaign on Tuesday against Swiss side Young Boys.
