Danny Rose: Harry Kane wants to break records with Tottenham but others may leave

Danny Rose feels Tottenham can "only do so much" to keep players amid Manchester City's interest in fellow defender Kyle Walker.

As exclusively revealed by Standard Sport, Spurs are ready to listen to offers in excess of £35 million for the first-choice right-back with Pep Guardiola holding a strong interest.

Rose, who has also been linked with a move away from north London, feels the likes of Harry Kane wants to stay with Tottenham for the foreseeable future but notes others, without naming names, could be looking elsewhere after recent near-misses with silverware.

"I think the club can only do so much, a lot of it has to be down to the individual," Rose told BBC 5 live.

"I don't want to speak on behalf of anyone but, working with someone like Harry Kane I can tell you that his mindset will be: 'I'm staying with Tottenham, I'm going to break every single record, I'm going to set new records, I'm going to captain this team into the new stadium.'

"So when you've got a player like him with that mindset, Tottenham don't have to worry in that respect. It just depends where that individual is in that stage of his career. A player might feel that he's done enough at Tottenham and might fancy a change.

"Or you might feel that Tottenham is the 'nearly club'. We nearly win the Premier League, we nearly win the FA Cup semi-finals, and you might choose to move on.

"The club can only do so much and try to make a player see that the club is going in the right direction and if you stick with us it won't be long before you win something."

City have already begun what is expected to be another summer of heavy spending, confirmed the signing of Monaco midfielder Bernando Silva for a reported £43m.
