Danny Rose is to see a specialist today as he tries to learn when he may return to action for Tottenham.

The England defender has not played since damaging medial ligaments in his knee in the 0-0 draw with Sunderland on January 31, and has yet to resume training with the first-team squad.

It is now thought Rose, 26, will seek further advice as a possible return date remains unclear.

Tottenham still believe Rose will return to action before the end of the season, although his chances of playing a significant part in their April programme appear to be hanging by a thread.

Tottenham face Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley on April 22 before taking on Arsenal at White Hart Lane in the Premier League eight days later.

That fixture might be the final north London derby at Spurs’ current home.

Tottenham hope top scorer Harry Kane will be back for the Chelsea game as he is making good progress in his recovery from an ankle ligament injury.

Erik Lamela, however, will not play again this season as he is due to have surgery on the hip problem that has kept him out of action since the 2-1 defeat at Liverpool in the EFL Cup on October 25.
