Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+ bringing back Punisher star
Jon Bernthal will make his long-awaited return to the MCU in Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bernthal will reprise his Netflix role as Frank Castle/The Punisher in the 18-part TV adaptation of the Marvel Born Again storyline.
This casting suggests the TV version will differ from Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli's comics storyline because The Punisher played no part in that version.
Bernthal's incarnation of The Punisher first appeared in the Netflix Daredevil show, before spinning off into his own series on the streaming service until Marvel moved the characters over to Disney+.
Marvel has not commented on these latest reports of Jon Bernthal's return to the role.
The actor likely has some free time on his hands, following the disappointing news in January that Showtime wasn't picking up a second season of his American Gigolo show.
In Daredevil: Born Again, Bernthal will reunite with former Netflix co-stars Charlie Cox (aka Matt Murdock / Daredevil) and Vincent D'Onofrio (Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin).
Newcomers to the Disney series include Severance's Nikki M James, The Many Saints of Newark star Michael Gandolfini and Better Call Saul's Sandrine Holt.
Deborah Ann Woll, who played Karen Page in the Netflix show, recently expressed interest in returning for Born Again since Karen plays a huge role in the comic.
"They [Disney] have not called me yet. So, as of now, I am not a part of it," she told the Inside of You podcast.
"I would be thrilled to get to be a part of it – they know where I am. Like I said, I love the character and I love telling that story. I feel like I have more to say. But it is up to them what kind of story that they want to tell."
Daredevil seasons 1-3 are streaming on Disney+. Daredevil: Born Again is due to premiere in 2024.
