Daredevil Cruise Talks Up Top Gun Sequel

Tom Cruise has said he is happy to continue performing his own stunts - while hinting a long-awaited sequel to iconic 1980s movie Top Gun was in the pipeline.

The 49-year-old was in London for the premiere of his fourth Mission Impossible film, Ghost Protocol, where he braved freezing temperatures to spend around two hours on the red carpet chatting to fans.

As with previous instalments, the blockbuster features a host of jaw-dropping stunts likely to please fans of the action movie series.

But despite his advancing years, the Hollywood star told Sky News he still enjoyed doing the daredevil stunts himself.

"It was fun," he said.

"It was challenging and I know everyone was pretty nervous when we were doing it, but a lot went into it to try and make it as safe as possible."

Appearing in the film alongside Cruise is British actor Simon Pegg , who was clearly impressed by his co-star.

He said: "I love Tom, he's infinitely impressive as a human being. (He is) the most committed guy in terms of his dedication to his work. He really cares what people get from the films he makes.

"He puts everything into them and you can't help, when you're working with him, (but) do the same thing. You have to raise your game."

And more than 25 years since the release of Top Gun , Cruise indicated he was more than willing to reprise his role as Maverick - providing he was happy with the script.

He told Sky News: "We've been working on it. I never thought we'd do it, but Tony Scott, the director and (producer) Jerry (Bruckheimer) and I, we're talking about something.

"I thought, I see where we are right now and to get an opportunity to fly that aircraft... you know, the only way I'll do it is if they really crack the story and I get to fly in them.

"It's all about getting back in that aeroplane. Make no mistake about it."
