There's been a double helping of both good and bad news for Daredevil fans when it comes to updates on the much-anticipated Marvel show.

Many have taken their chipper little selves to Twitter to express how thrilled they are to learn that Jon Bernthal will be reprising the role of The Punisher in the reboot, Daredevil: Born Again.

“The Goat is Back,” tweeted one fan.

Another posted:

“Wouldn’t have it any other way ! Now I hope some other Marvel TV characters come back [to] the MCU,” us too *wink, wink.*"

Vincent D'Onofrio will also make a return as Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin, following on from his last MCU appearance in Hawkeye.

On the flip side of that good-news coin: the fates of both Karen (Deborah Ann Woll) and Foggy (Elden Henson) are on the line, as rumours circulate that they may not return at all.

Yep, two thirds of the dynamic trio (with Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock making up the sizeable third) could possibly be axed — and we are not okay.

Woll and Henson’s Karen and Foggy were more than just Matt’s co-workers, they were his friends and a Daredevil without them just wouldn’t make sense.

It would be particularly unusual for them not to return to the MCU given that their role expanded beyond just the Daredevil world: both made appearances in The Defenders with Woll’s Karen also popping up in The Punisher. You see where we’re going with this – you can’t bring back one beloved character and not the others.

So is there any truth in the rumour mill's churnings? Could we really be losing Karen and Foggy?

Here’s what we know.

Will Foggy and Karen be in Daredevil: Born Again?

It’s still early days, but the answer to that question at this stage is… maybe. But not for the reason you may think.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Karen and Foggy could return to the franchise, but it’s possible that other actors may take on the roles.

HR only reported that Woll and Henson are not expected to return following their absentee marks on the roll call for the upcoming Marvel series. Not that their characters wouldn’t be coming back – so depending on how you look at things, there’s still hope.

We know. We feel you.

Fans have been quick to share their very strong feelings about a possible recast. Let’s just say the Twitter backlash is real.

“I just hope Foggy and Karen aren't recast,” tweeted one fan, adding: “That would amplify outrage I'm sure.”

While another said:

“Disney is really destroying Marvel. Netflix, come get your show back. For this kind of news I’d prefer for the show to just stay cancelled.”

Brokenhearted fans can take comfort in the fact that Daredevil: Born Again is still in its early stages and that while Woll and Henson’s names may not appear on the roll call at the moment, many decisions are still being made.

We know that Woll would be keen to step into the part of Karen Page again. Expressing this sentiment to GamesRant, Woll said: “The Marvel series feels unfinished to me because we got cancelled when we thought we were going to have more."

When asked why she wanted to play Karen again, she added: "There is a part of me that was like, I had more to say about Karen and I felt like I was in the middle of that story."

If she and Henson were to return to the fold they can expect an enthusiastic welcome from lead Cox, who told Variety: “It was an absolute delight to work with everyone on all of those shows at Netflix.

"They were the beating heart of all of those shows. I would be honoured and thrilled to work with any of them again."

Fingers crossed this reunion is on the cards!
