Dark Clouds Loom Over Batanes as Mawar Passes Philippines

Strong winds and rain impacted the province of Batanes in the Philippines on May 30 as Typhoon Mawar passed the province, local media reported.

Mawar, known locally as Betty, maintained its strength as it traveled over the Sea of Batanes on Tuesday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration reported.

According to the Philippine Star Mawar was 315 kilometers (about 195 miles) east of Basco on Tuesday.
