Dark Clouds Loom Over Marco Island as Hurricane Churns Toward Florida

Timelapse footage showed dark clouds rolling over Marco Island, Florida, on Monday, September 26, ahead of the anticipated arrival of Hurricane Ian late on Wednesday.

The video was recorded by Scott Schilke on the same day the Marco Island City Council approved a Declaration of Emergency.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) upgraded Ian to a Category 3 storm after it recorded wind speeds of over 125 mph as it made landfall over western Cuba in the early hours of Tuesday.

The NHC warned of life-threatening conditions developing along Florida’s west coast, with areas from Fort Meyers to Tampa Bay most at risk. It said tropical-storm conditions could be expected in central-west Florida by Tuesday evening, with heavy rainfall forecast for the Florida Keys and southern Florida.
