Actor Michael Jai White has spoken to Screen Rant about his character Gambol's fate, which was left a little wonky in the final cut.

In the film, Gambol was tricked into thinking that the Joker's body had been brought to him after putting a price on the clown prince's head. The facepaint-coated lunatic had other ideas though, springing up in his bin-liner body bag and seemingly stabbing the gangster to death.

On his character's fate, White revealed: "I think that people can tell by the strange cut that I never shot a death scene. The character wasn't supposed to be gone. That is something that happened in editing later. You don't see mistakes in a movie of that magnitude. When you see something that is somewhat a mistake or is not clarified, there is something behind that."

The Dark Knight doesn't tackle Gambol's supposed death head-on, with the camera angle merely showing him falling to the floor. This moment follows the Joker's magnetic monologue about his drunken father and the origins of his gnarly facial scars.

White also teases that Gambol could've potentially shown up in future Batman instalments. "It was the kind of thing where they had deeper intentions for Gambol," he said, "it was a character who was written for future use, I think. There were other plans to do stuff with that character and some things that were cut out. I think it's because of unfortunately losing Heath Ledger."
