Darren Day opens up about 'unbearable' mental health struggle

Darren Day has revealed he has struggled with mental health issues that have sometimes been “unbearable”.

The actor and singer, 51, has been open about his battle with drug addiction in the past, but has not talked about his mental health struggle.

Posting a moving video on Instagram, he said he had decided to speak out as he has become involved with new charity It’s OK Not To Be OK..

Day told fans: “It is well documented out there that I am in recovery from addiction issues and I have spoken about that publicly.

“Something I have never spoken about publicly is my mental health issues.”

“Some parts of my life have been unbearable until I got to the point where I reached out for help,” said the star.

“Today I am choosing to talk about it because I have become involved with this wonderful charity: It’s OK Not To Be OK.”

Day said the charity was set up by a friend of his.

He went on: “If you are suffering, reach out and tell someone because my life is so much better now that I am on the right medication and I have the right support network around me.”

“God bless you all and much love,” he added.

Day has appeared on television shows such as Hollyoaks and Doctors and has appeared in many stage productions.

In 2016, he was a contestant on Celebrity Big Brother.
