Darren Ferguson refutes Chris Davies claim and makes Birmingham City point
Darren Ferguson believes ‘relegation is the best thing to happen’ to Birmingham City after watching his Peterborough United become their latest victims in League One.
Blues came from two goals down to defeat the Posh 3-2 at St Andrew’s on Saturday to overtake Wrexham at the top of the table. Willum Willumsson and Oscar Wallin (OG) goals saw Blues draw level before captain Krystian Bielik netted the winner in the 66th minute.
Peterborough manager Darren Ferguson said: “I said before the game, and I meant it, I feel the relegation has been the best thing to happen to this club. It’s galvanised everyone, they have brought in a good coach, the place is flying now and they are going to have a right go at getting out of the league first time. The best thing that could have happened to Birmingham has actually happened.”

Ferguson also used his post-match press conference to refute suggestions that his team time-wasted. The home fans weren’t happy with the time Peterborough goalkeeper Jed Steer used up on goal-kicks and Blues manager Chris Davies said his yellow card was partly due to frustrations over the time it was taking for play to restart.
Ferguson added: “You get here and after three minutes they want people booked for time-wasting! It’s a little bit much, we’re not time-wasting. But that’s the atmosphere you have to deal with, that’s what you get here. We dealt with them OK. The disappointment is you go two-nil up and lose the game.
“We wanted to come here and have a go at them. We wanted to be on the front foot if we could.
“We’re not going to play this team every week. They’ve recruited really well and have some outstanding players for this level. But we didn’t want to just sit here and let them win the game comfortably.”
