The frontman of Slipknot has said that Foo Fighters star Dave Grohl “is still a nice person” despite fathering a secret child outside of his marriage to director and actress Jordyn Blum.

Grohl – the former drummer of Nirvana – announced the shocking news via Instagram in September. Since, the Foo Fighters are rumoured to have gone on an indefinite absence, and two of the star’s three daughters, 18-year-old Violet and 15-year-old Harper, have deactivated their Instagram accounts.

Now, Corey Taylor, the frontman of heavy metal band Slipknot, has weighed in. A longtime friend of Grohl, 50-year-old Taylor appeared on a recent episode of the podcast Your Mom’s House, which is hosted by comedians Christina Pazsitzky and Tom Segura, where he was asked about the situation.

Calling Grohl “one of the nicest people on the planet”, Taylor told Pazsitzky and Segura that he believes Grohl announced the baby’s birth to get in ahead of the mother - whose identity remains unknown – announcing it herself. “It’s called controlling the narrative,” he said.

Calling the circumstances “messy” and “irresponsible”, Taylor said that he knows that many of Grohl’s fans are disappointed in him, “but I have to remind people that we’re not perfect”.

“This happening does not mean he’s not a nice person, because I happen to know him as a person,” he continued. “I mean he’s got f*cking issues and he f*cked up. He’s not perfect. It’s going to be very difficult for his family.”

Grohl has been married to Blum since 2003, and has often been referred to as “the nicest guy in rock music” due to his charity work, friendly nature and image as a family man. His daughter Violet, a singer, performed alongside her father at last year’s Glastonbury festival.

In his statement announcing the news, Grohl said he plans to be a “loving and supportive” parent to his new child. “I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness.”
