David Beckham's son Romeo has signed his first professional football contract in the United States.

The 19-year-old has reportedly agreed a deal with USL League One side Fort Lauderdale.

The third division side operates as the reserve team for Major League Soccer's (MLS) Inter Miami, co-owned by Beckham senior.

Romeo, who celebrated his birthday this week, seemed to confirm the signing after changing his Instagram bio to "Footballer for @fortlauderdalecf".

His mum Victoria Beckham then added: "We are so proud of you Romeo x."

Romeo is in line to make his debut against Chattanooga Red Wolves SC this weekend, according to Miami Total Futbol.

He can play in positions across the pitch and has also been training with Inter Miami over the past few weeks.

Romeo will hope to emulate his famous father David Beckham who played for Manchester United, Real Madrid, AC Milan, PSG and Los Angeles Galaxy.

David paid tribute to his son this week on his birthday by posting an image of him kissing Romeo when he was a child.

He wrote on Instagram: “Happy 19th birthday to my beautiful boy. Have the most amazing day we love you so much and are so proud of the man ( almost ) that you have become.

“Keep being you and never change ( apart from the team you support ) Love you Ro Ro Love always Dad.”

Beckham announced he would take up his option and put a team in Miami in 2013.

Inter Miami played its inaugural season in the MLS in 2020 and is managed by Beckham’s former Man Utd teammate Phil Neville.
