David Beckham still has the train ticket that Victoria Beckham scribbled her number on the back of from when the married couple met in 1997.

During a recent appearance on The Tonight Show, the former footballer told host Jimmy Fallon that he remembers the time the Spice Girl-turned-fashion icon attended one of his Manchester United matches with her bandmate Mel C.

“She came to watch me in a game in London with her manager at the time and one of the other Spice Girls, Sporty Spice,” the 44-year-old recalled. “She was obviously my favourite, might be a bit awkward if [she] wasn’t.”

He then went on to reveal that Victoria travelled up to Manchester the following week, which is when they officially spoke for the first time.

“She’d had a couple of drinks so I decided, ‘Why not? I’ll try and get her number,’” Beckham laughed. “We talked for about an hour in the players’ lounge. She actually got the train up that day so she wrote her number down on her ticket... which I still have.”

While the retired sportsman was sharing sweet stories on TV, Victoria took to Instagram to upload an old video of the pair of them talking about Beckham’s career.

“When did you realise you were really famous?” she asks in the vintage clip.

“Straight away,” he replies with a smile, to which Victoria claps back: “I think it was when he first started going out with me actually.”

“What made you fall in love with Victoria?” a person behind the camera then asks.

“I couldn’t... I couldn’t put my finger on one thing. It was everything. You know, the whole package,” Beckham said.
