David Bowie Musical ‘Lazarus’ Is Coming To London

A musical featuring the music of David Bowie is coming to London this autumn following a successful premiere in New York.

Lazarus is inspired by Walter Tevis’ novel ‘The Man Who Fell To Earth’, which was originally adapted into a movie starring Bowie in 1976.

The musical, co-written by Bowie and Enda Walsh, will focus on the story of a ‘man’ called Newton, played by Dexter actor Michael C Hall, who is on Earth and ‘unable to die’.

Michael Esper and Sophia Anne Caruso also reprising their roles in the production, which is directed by Ivo van Hove.

Lazarus originally premiered at the New York Theatre Workshop from November 18 2015 to January 20 2016, just after Bowie’s tragic death on January 10.

The Metro reports that the musical sold out in ‘record time’ in NYC, and that it received mixed reviews from critics.

The Guardian, for example, wrote: “This should be a terrible show. It seems unlikely that it is what its collaborators imagined, and what they have created makes perilously little sense.

“But those collaborators are so extravagantly talented and the performers undertake what’s asked of them […] with such dedication and verve that it’s nearly impossible not to be persuaded and baffled and at least a little thrilled.”

Lazarus runs at the Kings Cross Theatre from October 25 2016 to January 22 2017. Tickets are on sale now.
