David Bowie’s Ashes ‘Scattered At Burning Man Festival’

David Bowie’s ashes have reportedly been scattered at the Burning Man Festival over the weekend.

The late icon – who passed away following a secret cancer battle earlier this year, aged 69 – was honoured with a small ceremony at The Temple of Black Rock City in the Nevada desert, reports claim.

E! News revealed that the star’s godchild had permission from Bowie’s widow Iman to take a portion of his ashes to the annual gathering since they both “shared a special connection” to the festival.

A source told the website: “David’s godchild and David had long talks about Burning Man and what it stands for, and David loved the message behind it.”

The Starman singer was purportedly commemorated by 70 people in front of the wooden Temple, which is erected for attendees to pay tribute to their loved ones - and later burned to the ground at the end of the week-long event.

An eyewitness revealed: “We played [David’s] music the entire drive from our camp to the Temple and back. Most of us had the Bowie [lightning bolt] face paint on in his honour.”

Bowie passed away on January 10th following a battle with liver cancer, just two days after he released his acclaimed final album Blackstar.

At the time, a statement on the star’s Facebook page read: “David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer.

“While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief.”
