There were plenty of twists and turns on the penultimate episode of The Bodyguard on Sunday night (September16).

But one of the most surprising moments of the series has come in the form of an unexpected cameo from former Prime Minister David Cameron.

Cameron was seen posing alongside Home Secretary Julia Montague (Keeley Hawes) and NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen in the 'Death Star' photograph. Julia chose the picture as the hiding place for her "kompromat" tablet, which David Budd (Richard Madden) discovered at the end of last week's episode.

After the episode aired, the show's set designer, Matthew Clark, took to Twitter to claim that Cameron actually posed for the pic.

"Fun fact: Keeley Hawes is *such* a national treasure, we got David Cameron to pose for this photo and photoshopped him in to match her, rather than the other way around," Clark wrote.

But it turns out Matthew was just pulling our leg, as Cameron's office confirmed to Guardian journalist Jim Waterson that it was in fact Keeley who was photoshopped in to the pic.

"David Cameron's office says this is not true, he hasn't posed for Bodyguard," Waterson tweeted, adding that the original pic showed Cameron and Rasmussen on either side of former Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt.

Looks like it's just another case of David Cameron spoiling all the fun!

This Sunday (September 23) The Bodyguard will conclude with a special 75 minute episode.

The drama, which has pulled in over 10 million viewers, has now been snapped up by Netflix for viewers outside the UK.

It is expected to land on the streaming service next month.

The Bodyguard concludes on Sunday (September 23) at 9pm on BBC One.
