David Fincher Thriller ‘The Killer’ Is Over-Indexing With Black and Hispanic Households | Charts
What happens when you combine a leading actor with two Oscar nominations, a director with four Oscar nods of his own, and a streaming debut following a very brief theatrical release? That killer combination makes for a big hit, which is what Netflix had this week with “The Killer,” starring Michael Fassbender and directed by David Fincher.
The action thriller tops the streaming chart in the Samba TV Weekly Wrap Report for the week of Nov. 6 to 12. Viewership among diverse audiences was strong, with Black households over-indexing by 6% and Hispanic households over-indexing by 5%.
In second this week is “All The Light We Cannot See,” Netflix’s limited series based on the popular novel. The series launched on Nov. 2, and the extra week of viewership helped propel the World War II drama up two spots from where it sat last week.
While Netflix has seven of the top 10 streaming spots this week, three non-Netflix programs managed to crack the top five, thanks in large part to series premieres and finales.
The Season 2 finale of “Loki” debuted on Disney+ on Nov. 9, drawing enough viewership to put the show in third place this week, up from fifth last week. “Lawmen: Bass Reeves,” the latest series from prolific creator Taylor Sheridan, debuted on Paramount+ on Nov. 5 with two episodes and ranked fourth for the week. Next is the season three finale of “The Morning Show” on Apple TV+ in fifth, up from seventh last week.
Netflix owns the final five spots on the streaming chart this week, with “Locked In,” a psychological thriller in sixth place. Next up is last week’s No. 1, the animated superhero flick “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.”
Coming in eighth is the seventh season of the popular reality program “Selling Sunset,” followed by “Nyad,” the based-on-a-true-story film about a 60-year-old marathon swimmer. The drama stars decorated actors Annette Bening and Jodie Foster. Finally, in 10th is “Life On Our Planet,” the CGI-aided nature series.
On the linear Top 10, a program finally knocked “The Voice” out of No. 1, and it involved, well, a lot more voices. The 57th Country Music Association Awards owns the top spot this week, proving that live tentpole awards shows still have plenty of pull.
Not to be deterred, “The Voice” aired three episodes this past week, and those come in second, fourth, and fifth.
The rest of the linear chart proves that TV’s most popular shows have staying power. ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” is third this week, perennially coming in just behind “The Voice.” Reruns of “Yellowstone” remain popular on CBS, putting the show in sixth place this week. “The Golden Bachelor” is seventh, “Survivor” is eighth, “Saturday Night Live” is ninth, and “Hell’s Kitchen” is 10th.
