"Rest in peace Mum. You lived your life impeccably. I will never forget you. I promise to do my best to pass the gifts you gave to me on to my own beautiful sons."
Furnish's tribute comes after his husband of five years revealed he has battled alcoholism in the past.
In his upcoming memoir, Me: Elton John, the singer divulges that his fame took its toll on Furnish as he struggled to get to grips with long bouts of loneliness while home alone during tours.
John, 72, details that after a huge row between them, Furnish checked himself into rehab for treatment and went on to support his spouse as they went to Alcoholics Anonymous meetings together.
The pair, who began dating in 1993, share two sons, Zachary, eight, and six-year-old Elijah.
