Mary, Queen of Scots has added two more big names to the cast.

David Tennant and Guy Pearce join the film which currently has the working title of 'Mary, Queen of Scots', according to Variety.

The movie will also feature Brooklyn actress Saoirse Ronan in the title role, while Suicide Squad's Margot Robbie will star as Elizabeth I.

Set in 16th-century England, Mary took over the throne at merely 6 days old after her father James V of Scotland died, although she mainly grew up in France.

Later – beware 400-year-old spoilers – she married the Dauphin of France, then became Queen Consort of France when he took over the throne.

In later life she married her cousin, Henry Stuart, Lord Darnley, whose house exploded and who was later found murdered. Crikey.

She remarried a man thought to have orchestrated the murder, tried to return to England to take the throne from Elizabeth 1, but was imprisoned and eventually beheaded. So basically it sounds like this film could be INCREDIBLE and make Game of Thrones seem akin to Disney's Robin Hood.

The film, which is based on John Guy's biography My Heart Is My Own: The Life of Mary Queen of Scots, has already cast Dunkirk's Jack Lowden, Joe Alwyn, Martin Compston and Downton Abbey's Brendan Coyle.

Meanwhile in other David Tennant news, he looks set to return as his super-creepy character Kilgrave in Jessica Jones season 2, despite what happened at the end of the first season.

Plus in Margot Robbie news, she's set for her own spin-off movie – no, we don't mean Gotham City Sirens with Harley Quinn, but instead a Robin Hood spin-off called Marian.

Mary, Queen of Scots is scheduled for release in 2018.
