Davina McCall reveals 'emotional turmoil' of divorce

Davina McCall has spoken about the “absolute emotional turmoil” of divorcing her husband of 17 years, explaining why she’ll always keep the relationship private.

The TV presenter is currently starring in new ITV hit contest The Masked Singer, where she tries to guess which celebrities are singing alongside fellow panellists Rita Ora, Jonathan Ross, and Ken Jeong.

She split from husband Matthew Robertson in 2017 and has always stayed quiet on the details of the end of their marriage, but has now admitted it was a “traumatic experience”.

Talking to the Mail on Sunday’s You magazine, she said: “Going through a divorce is a traumatic experience and it is something that needs to be navigated as carefully as possible.

“Two years on, we have both grown as people, and we can now co-parent happily and acknowledge that it was the right thing for us to go through, even though it involved absolute emotional turmoil.”

McCall and Robertson have three children together and married in 2000, her second wedding after a two-year marriage to Andrew Leggett in the 90s.

However, she added that she would never give out details of the split out of respect to Robertson and their children.

The 52-year-old TV star has been dating celebrity hairdresser Michael Douglas for nearly a year, but explained that she put a lot of effort into keeping that relationship private, too.

She said: “I am always conscious of being completely mindful. If I go to an event with Michael, we arrive separately to avoid any photos. This is just something that I try to keep as private as possible. It’s complicated.”

Douglas split with his wife months before beginning to date McCall, but he and his family had previously been friends of the star and she said she would not discuss their relationship out of respect for them.
