Dawn French reveals she's still in mourning over Emma Chambers' death
Dawn French has spoken about how hard she’s finding it to deal with the death of her Vicar of Dibley co-star Emma Chambers’ sudden death.
Talking to Lorraine Kelly this morning on Lorraine, Dawn, 60, spoke fondly about her the beloved British actress but was still struggling with grief: ‘This has been very shocking and sad loss, she was far too young and we are all still reeling from it,’ she began.
‘But I have to say my memories of working with Emma are some of my favourite of my whole career.
‘She’s a massively diligent person, much unlike Alice, she was incredibly bright,’ the icon recalls.
Speaking about the character Emma famously portrayed in the BBC comedy, Dawn reminisced: ‘She didn’t play a simpleton, she played someone with a different reality and she was incredible at that. I will miss that.
‘To play a clown like that it takes a lot of hard work,’ a she lightened the mood and praised how ‘particular’ she was in creating the character.
Emma’s agency released a statement after the star’s death, paying tribute to her: ‘Emma created a wealth of characters and an immense body of work. She brought laughter and joy to many, and will be greatly missed.’
Aside from being a staple character in The Vicar of Dibley for 13 years, Chambers appeared in shows Drop the Dead Donkey, Take a Girl Like You, and Little Robots, as well as movies Wind in the Willows, Notting Hill, and The Clandestine Marriage.
