Dawn French says she relished her raunchy new TV role

Comedy star Dawn French isn’t usually the kind of person you associate with raunchy sex scenes, but she admits she’s relished the opportunity to get stuck in during the filming of new Sky drama Delicious.

“I’ve done comedy sex before but nothing serious like this,” the 59-year-old told the Daily Mirror. “And I can’t say I didn’t enjoy it.

“It felt kind of illegal, a very naughty thing to do. It’s not every day you find yourself in bed with Iain Glen, is it?”

Dawn plays chef Gina, who has a fling with her ex-husband Leo, played by the rugged Game Of Thrones star. It all goes pear-shaped when they’re caught out by Leo’s younger second wife, played by Emilia Fox.

Admitting that the role is a wee bit different to the Vicar of Dibley, Dawn said: “I’m in my late 50s and, despite what the younger generation might think, we do still have an interest in sex.

“I’ve always been a massive lover of snogging, both on and off screen. I’ve never made any secret of that.

“I never considered a stunt woman to shoot the scenes in my place – but then, we didn’t get up to any stunts. I certainly didn’t think it would be dangerous! And no, the idea of a body double never crossed my mind.”

Of course, stripping off isn’t such a biggie for Dawn’s co-star Iain. The Scottish star once cartwheeled naked across the stage while starring opposite Nicole Kidman in The Blue Room.

“As it happens you see rather a lot more of him than me,” Dawn admits. “He’s a terrific actor. Very sexy and very clever. And he’s appeared in the nude before. So he’s practised at that kind of thing.”

The four part series kicks off on December 30.
