Even though The Day of the Jackal airs its final two episode on Peacock today, it isn't the end of the story. The thriller, starring Eddie Redmayne, will be back for a second season.
Shortly after the show premiered on Sky (in the UK) and Peacock (worldwide), it was renewed for a season two.
Redmayne will likely be returning as the titular Jackal, a contract killer, but it's as yet unclear who else from season one will be back in season two.
The Day of the Jackal
Loosely based on Frederick Forsyth's 1971 novel of the same name (which was adapted into a 1973 film starring Edward Fox), The Day of the Jackal is a modern remake.
“Our Jackal, played by Eddie Redmayne, combines ruthlessness and obsession with glimpses of something more vulnerable: a man whose unique skill – killing very closely guarded people and getting away (an important consideration, as he emphasises) – exhilarates him and gives him a very good living, but ultimately brings chaos to the order he so profoundly needs,” screenwriter Ronan Bennett explained.
The first season of the thriller was a success with both viewers and critics. It quickly became the biggest new series to ever launch on Sky, and at the forthcoming 2025 Golden Globes, it has been nominated for Best Television Series (Drama) and Redmayne picked up a nod for Best Actor in a Television Series (Drama).
While we wait for more news regarding The Day of the Jackal season two, all episodes of season one are now streaming on Peacock:
