People rave about its spectacular turquoise lake and golden sands and as the countless photos of this Mediterranean-like scene show, it's certainly stunning. It isn't what you would expect to come across in Kent, but where better to head on a hot summer's day than this mini holiday destination?

You could simply have a beach day with your family, or go as a group of friends for a sun lounger day with dips in that crystal clear water at St Andrews Lakes. And if you fancy more active fun in the sun, then there are lots of things to choose from.

There's open water swimming, a children's aqua park, paddleboarding, and pedalos to rent. There is also a sauna, plunge pool and hot tub; a climbing wall and archery, and you can hire a lakeside barbecue cabin.

But KentLive would urge you to have a good look at the website, so you know everything necessary before you head off. For example, during holiday season there are charges to hire wetsuits but you need to arrive earlier. And to go on the beach, there are all-day charges and you should book.

St Andrews Lakes is in Halling, a small village in the Medway district, nestled between Cuxton and Snodland and not far from Rochester. The lake is in a former quarry dug for chalk mining.

Its vibrant blue colour is due to suspended chalk particles and the way they reflect the light. There is a giant inflatable aquapark obstacle course, along with kayaking, sailing, and scuba diving with depths down to 34m, and a beach hut café.

The water is said by St Andrew's to be "incredibly clean" as it is spring fed. So, what are you waiting for? That sun lounger won't be free for long.

Booking is advisable when visiting St Andrews Lakes, especially during the summer season when the demand is high. Here's a brief overview on the costs of some activities:
