Arrow producer Greg Berlanti's next major DC series, Titans, is stocking its crop of teen heroes with an intergalactic princess.

The Teen Titans has cast Anna Diop - who has previously starred in 24: Legacy, Quantico and Greenleaf - as the crucial team member Starfire, according to Deadline.

Starfire is the alias of Princess Koriand'r of Tamaran, who crosses paths with (and falls in love with) Teen Titans leader Dick Grayson while in exile from her home world.

Kori was created by the classic DC Comics writing team of Marv Wolfman and George Pérez for their hugely successful 1980s revamp of the titans, and has been a staple ever since.

While Anna Diop will be the first actress to portray Starfire in live action, the character has an extensive history of being voiced by Hynden Walch in DC's animated series Teen Titans and Teen Titans Go!.

Diop is the second cast member confirmed for Titans, following the announcement that young Home and Away star Teagan Croft will portray the team's powerful sorceress Raven.

There is still no news on which actor will play Dick Grayson (aka Robin), the ward of Bruce Wayne who seeks to step out of the bat's shadow in forming his own troupe of young heroes.

Titans is in development from a DC Entertainment dream team comprising Akiva Goldsman (Fringe), comics legend Geoff Johns, and Arrowverse producer Greg Berlanti.

The project will air on DC Entertainment's subscription digital service along with the revival of popular animated series Young Justice.
