DC's Titans TV series, based on the Teen Titans comics, has found its Beast Boy.

Ryan Potter, best known as the voice of Hiro Hamada in Big Hero 6, will play Garfield 'Gar' Logan who contracted the lethal disease Sakutia as a child on an African expedition with his parents.

Treated with an experimental drug, he survived the disease, but developed side effects such as his skin and hair turning permanently green, with Gar becoming Beast Boy who can reshape himself into any animal of any size he can imagine.

Gar was first introduced in Doom Patrol in 1965, later arriving in Marv Wolfman and George Perez's Titans series as Changeling, before he shifted back to Beast Boy.

As well as Big Hero 6, Potter also taped an audition to be Robin in Ben Affleck's solo Batman movie, but as he pointed out on Twitter, the audition was "a campaign for representation – we succeeded".

Earlier this month, Lindsey Gort joined the cast of Titans as police detective Amy Rohrbach, the new partner of Dick 'Robin/Nightwing' Grayson, played by Pirates of the Caribbean's Brenton Thwaites.

Written by Akiva Goldsman, Titans also stars Smallville's Alan Ritchson and Minka Kelly as Hawk and Dove respectively, Anna Diop as Starfire and Home and Away's Teagan Croft as Raven.

Titans will premiere next year on DC's as-yet-unnamed digital service.
