Arrow, Supergirl, The Flash and DC's Legends of Tomorrow are welcoming Being Human's Russell Tovey as a groundbreaking superhero for an otherworldly crossover this autumn.

Tovey has been cast as gay superhero The Ray, for the traditional four-episode November storyline. The character is featured in his own CW Seed animated webseries as well.

This year's crossover is called 'Crisis on Earth-X', and is based around the heroes of the ArrowVerse coming together for the wedding of Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) and Iris West (Candice Patton).

However, the wedding is crashed when doppelgängers for all of our heroes arrive from the alternate Earth-X intent on conquering all opposition.

Luckily for our the Green Arrow and his friends, The Ray is also from Earth-X so he'll be able to lend a hand in taking down the evil look-alikes… hopefully before Barry and Iris lose their deposit on the wedding venue.

Tovey's The Ray is the superhero identity of Ray Terrill, a hero possessing light-centric powers who leads an underground band of heroes known as the the Freedom Fighters in their crusade against villainous forces.

To celebrate this Multiverse-friendly storyline, DC and The CW commissioned a poster from iconic Wonder Woman artist Phil Jimenez:

Crisis on Earth-X, the 4-part crossover event, begins November 27 on The CW!

Announcing the exciting Crisis on Earth-X TV event, producers Marc Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg told TVLine: "We conceived this year's crossover to be evocative of the annual Justice League/Justice Society crossovers we grew up with and looked forward to as kids.

"Phil [Jimenez ]was the perfect choice to bring the comic book cover iteration of this idea to life. You can count on one hand the number of artists who could compellingly represent so many characters in a single image. Phil is one of them. And his design invokes the cover of Justice League #207, which was the 20th Annual JLA/JSA crossover. Our ten-year-old selves are in heaven."

When Digital Spy recently chatted The Flash star Grant Gustin and Supergirl's Melissa Benoist, both promised that fans minds will be blown as the four episodes play out.

"I know the premise and I know it's going to make a lot of fans happy," Melissa Benoist, star of Supergirl, revealed. "Two events happen that people are going to lose their minds about."

Crisis on Earth-X begins on Supergirl and Arrow on Monday, November 27 at 8pm and 9pm ET, and concludes the following night on The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow at those same times.

Before we get to the hugely-awaited crossover, we can look forward to some action-packed episodes that have been teased in brand new synopses released by all four DC TV shows.
