Dead Boy Detectives has been cancelled by Netflix after just one season.
The series follows dead friends Charles Rowland (Jayden Revri) and Edwin Paine (George Rexstrew) who decide they'd rather solve supernatural crimes back on Earth than go to the afterlife.
The cast also features Hollyoaks' Kassius Nelson, Yuyu Kitamura, The Summer I Turned Pretty's David Iacono, Jenn Lyon, You star Lukas Gage, Briana Cuoco and Supernatural's Ruth Connell.

Released in April this year, Dead Boy Detectives remained in the Netflix Top 10 English TV charts for three weeks. However, according to Variety, the Neil Gaiman adaptation won't be returning for season two.
The show's cancellation is especially disappointing after its arduous journey to reach the screen. Max originally ordered a pilot in 2021, which was followed by a series order the following year.
"It's a fresh take on a ghost story that explores loss, grief, and death through the lens of Edwin Payne and Charles Rowland, two dead British teenagers, and their very alive friend, Crystal Palace. So, it's a lot like a vintage detective series — only darker and on acid," read the original synopsis.

The show was based on characters created for DC by Gaiman and Matt Wagner, and it was later decided that Dead Boy Detectives wouldn't fit into James Gunn and Peter Safran's Max-DC content.
This decision led to Netflix acquiring the series in 2023. As the Dead Boy Detectives were first introduced in The Sandman comic book and Netflix currently airs its TV adaptation, the show fit nicely within the Sandman universe.
Though Dead Boy Detectives has been axed, The Sandman will be back for season 2, after announcing that Steve Coogan has joined the cast.
Dead Boy Detectives is now available to watch on Netflix. The Sandman season 1 is available to stream on Netflix, while season 2 is yet to receive a release date.
