Dead fox found tied up with severe injuries on Chelmsford road
The RSPCA is appealing for information after the body of a female fox was found on the road in Chelmsford tied up with severe head trauma on Saturday, August 17. The fox had a severe trauma to her head and also had a white cable tied around her back legs, and it is assumed that this was inflicted on purpose by a person.
She had been found by a member of the public at the junction of Taylor Avene and Langton Avenue in Chelmsford - and the incident was reported to the RSPCA. RSPCA Animal Rescue Officer Natalie Read has been investigating the case.
She said: “It must have been really upsetting to find the fox in these circumstances - and we are grateful to the member of the public who reported this to us. The fox had a white cable around her back legs which appears to have been tied, and it looks like the fox was deliberately caught up in the cable.

“The fox also had severe trauma to her head and there was a lot of blood coming from her nose and ears. Heartbreakingly, a witness told us that a fox cub had been seen near the body - howling.
"The cub will be old enough to be without his mum - but it is still very distressing to hear this. I have visited the location and spoken to some local residents but I would be keen to speak to anyone who might have any information as to what may have happened to this fox."
The RSPCA has said that anyone with information can call in confidence on 0300 123 8018 quoting incident 01332730. The RSPCA has also warned that animal cruelty is on the rise - with the charity receiving 1,208 cruelty reports up to the end of June in Essex alone.
