Dead whale found washed up on Cruden Bay beach in Aberdeenshire

A whale has heartbreakingly been found washed up dead on a beach in Aberdeenshire.

The animal, which was found with damaged skin, was discovered on Cruden Bay sand at around 9am on Saturday morning (August 24).

It’s understood Scottish Marine Animal Stranding Scheme has been notified of the incident.

The latest find comes just weeks after a pod of 77 whales were found washed ashore in a beach in Orkney.

It is thought to be the largest mass stranding on a UK beach in decades.

Pictures from Cruden Bay showed the large whale's carcass found close to the grassy edge of the beach, well away from the water.
It's unknown how long the whale had been on the beach before being found dead.

Police Scotland have been contacted for comment.
