Deadly Bosnia Floods Leave Railway Track Dangling in the Air

At least 18 people were killed as flash floods caused devastation in parts of central Bosnia and Herzegovina over October 3 and 4, according to Bosnian media, citing officials.

The worst-affected area was Jablanica, a town in Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, where at least 16 of the victims were found, reports said. Two other bodies were found in Fojnica, about 20 miles north of Jablanica.

The death toll was expected to rise as around 40 people remained missing in the Jablanica area, the Oslobodjenje newspaper reported.

Just south of Jablanica, floods triggered a landslide that destroyed a large section of railway and left a 200-meter stretch of train tracks dangling in the air, according to the country’s railway authority, which released these images of the scene. Credit: FBiH Railways via Storyful
