For most actors, one dream role of a lifetime is enough - but not for Ryan Reynolds! Not only is he the reigning Merc with a Mouth as Deadpool, he's now going to be a Pokémon too.

Ryan has landed the lead role in Detective Pikachu. And by lead role, we mean that he's actually going to be playing Detective Pikachu in the video game adaptation (via The Hollywood Reporter).

The wise-cracking Canadian actor will do motion capture and provide the voice for the most hard-boiled of all the Pokémon, opposite The Get Down's Justice Smith as his human sidekick.

In Detective Pikachu, Justice's character turns to the pint-sized yellow investigator for help when his father is mysteriously kidnapped. Supernatural's Kathryn Newton was also recently cast in the film as a sassy journalist who joins the cause.

The movie is being adapted from the popular Nintendo game Great Detective Pikachu, which is itself a spin-off of the beloved Pokémon gaming and media series.

Goosebumps and Monsters vs. Aliens director Rob Letterman is bringing Detective Pikachu to life from a script by the upcoming animated Spider-Man film's Alex Hirsch and Guardians of the Galaxy co-writer Nicole Perlman.

There's no word yet on if they'll be carrying over Deadpool's famed love of chimichangas to the Detective Pikachu movie, but it'd definitely be a plus!

Universal hasn't announced when the movie will be hitting cinemas yet. The studio should probably hurry up because Ryan Reynolds is busy enough with Deadpool 2 and an X-Force movie too.
