You'd think after three failed attempts to revive the Terminator franchise they'd give up by now but nope, it looks like Hollywood is going to give it another go.

But this time things are going to different – because James Cameron is getting the rights back to the franchise.

Since Cameron is going to be busy filming about a dozen Avatar sequels, he's going to need to find a different director and it seems he's got his eyes on Tim Miller.

Deadline reports that the Deadpool director is in "early talks" to captain the next instalment of the franchise, although it's unknown if the next movie will be a reboot or a sequel to T2: Judgement Day.

Cameron will regain rights to the franchise in 2019, so we don't know when we can expect the next instalment of the time-travelling series.

The last entry in the series – Terminator: Genisys, which came out in 2015 – was savaged by critics and underperformed at the box office, with two planned sequels apparently scrapped.

One person who did like the film (apparently) was James Cameron himself, who said Genisys was "invigorating" and "a renaissance" for the franchise, as well as what he considered the third movie after his first two (burn).

Maybe he just knew he couldn't be seen slandering it if he knew he would be working on the next one, or if he genuinely liked it – we might have to wait and see until he starts doing promo for T6.
