Aspiring musical theatre actors will have the chance to star in the most anticipated Broadway transfer of 2019.

Two open casting calls have been put out for the West End premiere of Dear Evan Hansen, which opens at the Noël Coward Theatre in November.

Jill Green Casting announced the auditions on Twitter today, with one taking place at London’s Pineapple Studios on February 4 and the other at the Dancehouse in Manchester on February 18.

Auditions will be held for five roles, including the lead of Evan Hansen, listed as a “smart, sincere and excruciatingly self-conscious” high-schooler who is “too afraid to step into the spotlight”.

The roles of four other classmates Connor Murphy, Zoe Murphy, Jared Kleinman and Alana Beck are also up for grabs.

According to the call, there’s no need to sign up beforehand, but hopefuls will need to prepare 16 bars of a pop, rock or contemporary musical theatre song, bringing sheet music for the accompanist as well as a CV with an attached photo.

With a book by Steven Levenson and music and lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, Dear Evan Hansen picked up six Tony Awards in 2017, including best musical and best original score.

It tells the tale of an anxious schoolboy who finds himself the centre of attention when he fakes messages from a deceased classmate to gain popularity.
