BBC show Death in Paradise will return to our screens this week with a new series and a new main character. Eastenders star Don Gilet debuted in last month's Christmas special but will return for more island drama in the eight-part series.

What is the plot of Death in Paradise?

Death in Paradise is a crime comedy drama set on the fictional island of Saint Marie. Each season involves a Detective Inspector solving murder and mystery on a tropical island.

A BBC synopsis said: "A new DI lands on Saint Marie with more confounding murders to solve. But Londoner Mervin Wilson ruffles some feathers as he clashes with the island’s way of life."

How many episodes are there of Death in Paradise?

In total, there are 13 seasons of Death in Paradise, including four Christmas specials. Season 14 will consist of eight episodes, meaning that the total episode count is 116.
