Debbie McGee has opened up about her late husband Paul Daniels’ final days, saying they were able to share a joke until the end.

The magician died in 2016 aged 77 battling a brain tumour.

His widow McGee — who was married to the star for 28 years before he died — cared for Daniels at home in his final weeks.

According to the Mirror, she said the “cruel disease” stripped him of everything and recalled him collapsing on the bathroom floor in tears as he asked what was happening.

McGee, who used to be Daniels’ assistant, said the star was given a prognosis of two months but that they only got one month and five days.

But she revealed they still managed to share some quality time together and that when Daniels felt well enough they would "stroll around the garden down to the water’s edge".

She said: “We watched movies together and ate ice cream. Paul was never able to talk about his diagnosis but of course he knew he was dying.”

“He loved life too much to just give up," she added. "Although Paul’s voice was weaker we’d continued to share a joke.”

McGee, 63, apparently shared her story with Brain Tumour Research and it has been released to raise awareness.

Last year the TV star paid tribute five years after Daniels passed away.
