Debris Strewn as Guayanilla Church Walls Collapse in Puerto Rico Earthquake

A 6.4-magnitude earthquake hit the US territory of Puerto Rico on Tuesday morning, January 7, according to the US Geological Survey, knocking out power across the island and causing damage to multiple structures.

This footage shows damage to the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Guayanilla.

One person – reported as a 77-year-old man in Ponce – was killed in the quake as walls collapsed on him, and eight others were injured.

Puerto Rico governor Wanda Vazquez declared a state of emergency on January 7, announcing that $130 million was being funneled for the emergency response.
