December Student of the Month: Crowder's Samantha Long

Mar. 9—Where do you want to go to college and why?

I am going to Northeastern State University because it is semi-close to home and when I toured the campus I absolutely fell in love with the culture of the campus.

What is your list of accomplishments including scholarships received?

I am Valedictorian of my class. I have received the superintendent honor's roll.

What drives me to succeed?

Succeeding for me right now is completing my education, and completing my education means not having to fight tooth and nail for every top position I want in life. I don't have to fight as hard to get where I want later in life.

Who inspires you to excel in school and why?

Who inspires me to excel is my mom, she has always encouraged me in my dreams, saying I can do anything I set my mind to. When I struggled through it she was right there reminding me that it was all going to be okay.

What community activities are you involved in and what drives you to give back to your community?

I am involved in an organization called the Youth Advisory Board. I also participate in Angel Tree. I give back because sometimes I get to see the effect I have and people's reaction, and it makes my day.

What are your extracurricular activities and how do they improve your education?

I play catcher on my softball team, I play the viola for my school's orchestra, and I am a crew leader at Sonic. They all have taught me many things but some of the most important things are discipline and teamwork.

How would a new car help achieve your future goals?

A new car would help me continue my education without fretting about bus stations or walking,I would be able to make it to and from work, as well as let me come home to see my family more often.
