Deep fried tarantula is a delicacy in Cambodia with vendors selling up to 100 a day

Tarantula season has started in Cambodia which means a local delicacy is back on the menu – tarantulas.

Cambodia's rainy season starts in June, which brings with it an increase in tarantulas, which are hunted and then sold to be cooked and eaten. The spiders are found in the countryside and up to 140 can be captured per day by hunters.

The Spiders are prepared with sugar and salt then cooked in hot oil, producing crunchy, salty snacks.

They are popular with locals who prefer them to crickets and silkworms - which are other insects commonly sold in the street markets.

Vendors sell up to 100 tarantulas a day, proving them to be quite popular.
