Departing Nottingham Forest defender Felipe has revealed that he was the recipient of numerous offers to continue his playing career beyond the end of the season, but in he declined each approach in turn in order to spend more time with his family. Felipe, 35, announced that he'd be hanging up his boots at the end of the campaign, having helped Forest with two end-of-season survival pushes during his 18-month spell.

Felipe, who made the move to the City Ground from La Liga side Atletico Madrid on deadline day of the 2023 January transfer window, and proceeded to make 25 appearances across the course of his spell which, while short, will be fondly remembered. He left at the end of his contract, along with Wayne Hennessey, Cheikhou Kouyate and a host of loan players including Divock Origi, with Forest's Premier League status still in tact.

Felipe is now focused on spending time with his family for the foreseeable future, having confirmed that he couldn't be tempted to prolong his career further, despite interest from around the globe including from his native Brazil, from Portugal and Saudi Arabia - the latter of which is becoming an increasingly popular destination for players who are based in Europe because of the financial incentives on offer.

"My future plans are already very much mapped out. I just have to say thank you, it’s been a great career. My head is quite clear, thank God,” he told Globo Esporte, via Sport Witness. “Look, from a financial point of view, there was a lot of good, but I think that today, putting my family and quality time on the balance… There was no point in going through this process, which I already had plans for. I think it was easy. I also knew the consequences. I have a post-football plan. It was all well thought out, right?

“Ah, look, I honestly prefer not to say. In Brazil, there were four or five teams that came looking. In Portugal, Porto, who had a very good offer, open doors - and in Arabia, it was more the financial part. There were also some in Spain, here in England, but I’d rather not say.”

Of the lucrative Saudi offers, Felipe added: "I don’t think it did, putting quality time with my family in the balance, adding memories and all that. I don’t think there were any [considerations], nothing like that that opened my eyes, not even financially."
