Defiant Homeowner Refuses To Move As Motorway Is Built Around His House
62-year-old Fai Fu doesn't think he's been offered enough compensation for his home, so will be staying put while the motorway plans go ahead around him
A Chinese homeowner has taken stubbornness to a whole new level – by refusing to move despite a motorway being built around his house.
Fai Fu, who won’t allow builders to knock down his three-story property, reckons the Chinese government hasn’t offered him enough compensation for being forced out of the neighbourhood.
So while the motorway gets built around him, the 62-year-old hasn't budged.
The construction started on the multi-million-pound project in central China's Henan Province more than two years ago.
The road was designed to ease congestion in the suburbs and is due to open this summer.

The motorway passes straight through Fai’s four-bedroom building, which is still standing, despite the bulldozers waiting outside.
Fai has even planted a Chinese flag outside the property to remind developers that they must deal with him lawfully.
Under Chinese property law, developers and officials are not allowed to forcibly remove a structure until all its owners are satisfied with the compensation received for releasing the land.
A legal source said: "There have been umpteen attempts at negotiation but the owner will not settle. He is holding up the whole project."
