Delays on M42 as three-vehicle crash blocks carriageway

A crash involving three vehicles led to one carriageway of a major motorway being blocked. Emergency services were called just before 11am today, Friday, November 22, to a collision involving a lorry and two cars on the M42 southbound, between junction 4 for Shirley and junction 3A, where the motorway meets the M40.

Traffic information service Inrix said: “All traffic being temporarily held and stationary traffic due to accident on M42 southbound from J4 Blythe Gate to J3A M40. Congestion to northbound passing the scene as onloookers pass.”

West Midlands Roads initially reported there was ‘stationary traffic and congestion on approach’. But the incident had eased by 11.38pm, with lanes reopening.

West Midlands Ambulance Service sent a crew to the scene and treated two patients. A spokesman for the service said: “We were called at 10.56am to a three-vehicle road traffic collision. It involved a lorry and two cars.

“We have one ambulance in attendance and are assessing two patients.”

West Midlands Fire Service said it received a call at 11.02am. A spokesman said: “We were called to a collision involving two cars and an LGV (light goods vehicle) on the M42. We sent crews from Solihull and Handsworth.

“No persons were reported injured. We made sure everything was OK and safe and left the scene at 11.30am.”
