Demi Lovato has deleted her official Twitter account after sparking the wrath of rapper 21 Savage fans. The 26-year-old singer shared a meme on Twitter mocking the rapper’s recent exposure as a British citizen who was illegally living in the US and posing as an Atlanta, Georgia native.

In the now deleted tweet, Lovato wrote: ‘So far 21 savage memes have been my favorite part of the Super Bowl.’ This led to many twitter users writing abusive messages to Lovato, with many accusing her of hypocrisy due to her past battles with drug addiction.

While other users accused her of being insensitive considering the rapper had been arrested by ICE and now risks deportation.

In retaliation to the negative tweets, Lovato wrote: ‘If you’re gonna come at me for making a joke, try coming at me with something original not involving drugs.’

And then finally she declared she was done with Twitter and promptly deleted her account: ‘F*** Twitter. This is why I don’t tweet anymore.’

But once Lovato was off Twitter, she continued to post about the incident over on Instagram. She included a screenshot of one of the memes she had shared on Twitter with the caption: ‘FYI this is the s*** I’m laughing at.. not the fact that anyone is getting deported’ and additional screenshots of the negative comments she received on her Instagram stories.

Some of the comments she featured in her stories included social media users calling her a ‘crackhead’ and a ‘hypocrite.’

She responded to the accusations with the following statement: ‘I know that’s not a joke.. not have I EVER laughed at that. The meme I posted/was talking about was of him being writing with a feather pen. Sorry if I offended anyone. But it’s no excuse to laugh at someone’s addiction let alone their OD.’

Lovato entered rehab for a third time in August 2018 after suffering an alleged drug overdose. She released the following statement across social media that same month: ‘I have always been transparent about my journey with addiction. What I’ve learned is that this illness is not something that disappears or fades with time. It is something I must continue to overcome and have not done yet.’

21 Savage, real name Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, was arrested by ICE early Sunday morning for living in America illegally. He allegedly outstayed his visa, having entered the USA on a one-year visa in July 2005.

He is nominated for two awards at next week’s Grammys, including record of the year for Rockstar alongside Post Malone. He now risks deportation to the UK.
