Demi Lovato has revealed that she feels “too queer” to date cis men after calling off her engagement to Max Ehrich.

Last year Demi Lovato announced she was engaged to a cis man, Max Ehrich, but the pair broke things off just two months later.

“This past year I was engaged to a man, and when it didn’t work, I was like, This is a huge sign,” she told Glamour.

“I felt this sense of relief that I could live my truth.”

Demi Lovato came out as queer in 2017, but she told the magazine she didn’t realise how important her queerness was until now.

“When I started getting older, I started realising how queer I really am,” Lovato said.

After her breakup, Lovato realised she felt “too queer” to be with a cis man.

“Some of the guys I was hanging out with – when it would come time to be sexual or intimate, I would have this kind of visceral reaction,” she explained

“Like, ‘I just don’t want to put my mouth there.’ It wasn’t even based on the person it was with. I just found myself really appreciating the friendships of those people more than the romance, and I didn’t want the romance from anybody of the opposite sex.

“I hooked up with a girl and was like, ‘I like this a lot more.’ It felt better. It felt right.”

Demi Lovato spoke ahead of the release of her new documentary, Dancing With the Devil.

In it, she reveals that she felt that she couldn’t be her authentic self during her earlier career.

Now, the “Cool for the Summer” singer is living as her true self and has a new approach to sobriety, not letting people influence the way she lives.

“Nothing people say or do is going to really change the way I live,” Lovato said.

Demi Lovato’s new documentary will be out on March 23 on Youtube.
