The former Disney star – who is still just 24 years old – has been open about her past struggles with drug addiction, depression, bulimia and mental health. Now the 24-year-old singer’s therapist Mike Bayer, who she credits with saving her life, has revealed the Confident singer had been ‘tripping on shrooms’ as they say, before she reached out to him.

Mushrooms are a psychotropic drug and act on the central nervous system, making the user see things in different colors or patterns. They distort reality and feelings and emotions intensify. It can feel like time has sped up, slowed down or stopped completely.

Speaking to ET Canada, Mike said: “We met after a bad mushroom trip. She asked for help and she had called her therapist and another person, both had said, ‘Call Mike Bayer.'”

The singer is in control of her vices nowadays and has gone from strength to strength in her career. She invested in the CAST Centre in Los Angeles where she was treated and works closely with Mike to help people become the “best version of themselves”.

Mike said: “CAST initially was holding a broken bone in place until it could heal. Now what we’ve been able to do is help really empower people to be the best version of themselves.

Speaking about the reasons why she felt compelled to go back and help others in the way she had been, she said: “It sounds ridiculous but, like, I kind of made a pact with God.

“And I don’t even think you’re supposed to do that, but I was, like, I promised, ‘If you make me a singer one day, I’m going to use my voice for so much more than singing, and I’m going to help people with it.’ “
